Are there any truly "valuable" chickens/breeds?

BCMs aren't officially recognized as a breed by the APA, yet.

As far as the OP's question, it depends on what value the breeder places upon the bird(s). Some breeds are more easily replaced than others, even with project fowl.

It depends on who you ask......
My pet quality birds are very valuable to me, I bought them for about $5 a pieace when they were chicks, but to me they are way more valuable!!!!

Depending on what your getting, $5 per chick can be a really great deal, but paying that for a hatchery bird is just a ripoff.

If you're looking to make money, go with show quality birds, and if possible, in varieties that are uncommon, but can still win in a show. Speaking to breeders at shows can help a lot in getting what you're looking for, they may have something available or know someone who does. This can also help you in determining what you're looking for in a breed (temperment, hardiness, etc.)

You can also go with new varieties that are being worked on that haven't been recognized yet, although you may have a hard time getting your hands on breeding stock. In silkies, it's self blue, in cochins, it's mille fleur, etc. You'll have the best luck selling these as they approach the desired finished product (correct type and coloring).

Not really, that's actually false information many people spread around.. Used to, maybe.. But gamefowl like any other breed, have certain lines, and colors that fetch a pretty penny. Let's take pumpkin hulseys for example... Everyone loves them because of their color, and every single one of them are expensive unless you know the person or just find a deal. Some people will buy lines of birds just because they are rare and want to preserve them.

Many of the oriental gamefowl are expensive because finding pure quality stock here in the US is hard (or so i've read, im still learning into the orientals)... Either way though, not much into people just getting breeds to make money off them.

Any standard bred bird which is as close to the standard as possible is certanly worth some change. But I also think some of the very rare and primitive landraces that you just don't see are also quite valuable due to their inherent bloodlines leading back to the various jungle fowl species that were used by ancient people to create what we now call chickens.

Violacious Rapanui anyone?

I agree! But look at the hand- it's kinda grey. Almost like they adjusted the color of the image. Unless the hand is dead too.
