When I started wiith all Silkies several years ago, the roos were so loud I traded them all away to keep the neighbors from complaining. I lost my last roo a month ago (a Buff Ameraucana), who was very quiet. Was it the breed, or was he so quiet because I only had 1 roo? So basically, are roos quieter if there is only one? I'm thinking of adding a (Bantam) Cochin roo - can anyone tell me if they are louder than Silkies? Thanx for the help!

I think that they are quieter with only one roo. I also think that it is each bird as an individual as to how loud the crowing is. I have a silkie that is quiet, but i hear alot of people have loud ones. I think its hit or miss and you hang on to the quiet ones

I think its more of an individual bird thing than a breed thing.

I had one Silkie Roo who is now in a new home cause he drove us crazy 24 hours a day with crowing. My new silkie roo barely utters a sound.

My Cochin roo never crowed but when he moved in with Tenneseetruly, he started up a storm and crowed and crowed. I thought she was fibbin' when she said he crowed cause we had never heard him. lol

I have 2 standard Blue Cochin Roos that you never hear a peep out of and they are 1 1/2-2 yrs old. Now my other Roo that is americauna crows constantly , even in the middle of the night...very annoying. Thank gosh my closest neighbor is acres away.

My Ameraucana roo is a noisy sucker. He crows all the time... he may need to be rehomed.

My Black Copper Maran is pretty noisy too, but since Marans are kinda pricy I dont feel as though I can give him up.

My Black Silkie roo is pretty quiet. I like him, maybe I'll just stew the other boys and keep this little guy around.
