Are these black silkies worth $30?

Id like to move where they are:-) Seriously..theres not alot of people around me that even know what a silkie is-but the kids think they are cute so I sell them to families most of the time. Id love to get 15-20$ each then again most of the ones I sell are itty bitty chickies only a few weeks old...

Sorry But No They Are Not Worth $30.
You Can Get Better Quality Than Those,
For That Price.

I Know From Experience :

Be Patient, And You Will Find Yourself Some Great Silkies ,

Poultry Press? I have never heard of that?.. What exacly is it?

Depending on what you wanted (pet) or if you had concerns for breeding/showing $30 is still too much for pet, mine go for $5 and at the most $20 at the local swaps for pet quality. That is for birds from pens with good quality breeders and bloodlines behind them. Looking at the photos I see red flags, the white silkie with the super bright red comb makes me cringe, lol
Poultry Press, great source of info!

It depends on where you are, and how many other people are in your area selling silkies. I just sold two laying hens yesterday at $15 apiece. In order to really judge the quality of the bird it would be best to see it in person to look at skin color, feet,. feet feathering, look for any off-colored feathers, body type, etc. There are some things that aren't great in the pics- the mixed color pens, it looks like there is a single comb bird, and I see a red skinned bird. You would have to see the ones she is actually selling to judge.

I've paid more than $30 for a decent quality hen. Not SQ, but very nice breeder quality (no DQ's, some outstanding traits).

I have some chicks in the brooder that, once I start sorting, the 'culls' will be $10 as that seems to be the going rate in my area.

Oh- also be sure to check and see if they are in good condition other than the 'broody' or 'moulting' issue- have their toenails been kept trimmed? Mites? Scaly leg mites? Etc.

Wellllll, I think they're cute, and I'd've paid $30 each for them. Of course I don't know beans about judging silkies, but I have two really cute ones that I wouldn't take $500 for.

Guess it depends on where you live. Ideal quality silkies, which have tiny crests and sometimes are off colored, can and often do go for 15 a pop just for pet quality in the greater seattle area. A young layer under a year can often go for 25 a pop.

PQ is usually $15.00, but any hen that is breeder quality, or show placing, is certainly worth more... depends on what you want them for as far as quality goes.. Better quality=more $$$..didn't look like the greatest pics but there were some red flags on those to me also...

The lady wont reply so im guessing its a no on going down on her asking price.. all i can say is, Good luck sellin them birds!

If they are broody, they will not look like their former selves also. I have a hen that has won ch featherleg, BOB etc, two weeks ago she could have won at any show. To see her today she looks like a hatchery reject. She has been in the breeding pen & has gone broody. She has No cushion, No crest, and if I didn't know her I wouldn't recognize her in the least. She is the only Partridge in the pen, so I know who she is. So before you pass judgement you really need the whole picture, etc.
