I agree. There are folks selling "silkies" here that don't even look like what a silkie should look like for $15 each, and that's for cockerels!

Wow.. I bought a silkie from someone locally once for $5 and she was show quality if you ask me.. But i lost her number so i keep looking on craigslist.

I though the same thing! The crest and beards looked nice. Epecially if the toes were decent. If they were in my area they would sell quickly for that price with no problem.

The white one in the top pic again has a red crest which is incorrect for silkies Cant tell much from the others. $15 aint bad though, and if you are just wanting them for fun, go for it. You did right too by passing on the first ones. If the seller wont reply to you, you dont want to get involved with them, and look, now you can get them 2 for the price of 1

Well the white looks like it as a red color in the comb. You need to look at the birds individually, that way you can look for faults/DQs. A bird that looks average, could be a great breeder, breeding better than itself. As far as prices for birds, an example, my started chicks, BQ/DQ start at $25.00, the older better SQ birds are more. I have put alot of time, money into our birds and have the show results to back up those prices. So for all we know, the seller of the birds on CL could be a master breeder, and these could be their BQ birds. You need to go see the birds in person.

TRUE, definatley go look at them firts, but for $15 and personal pleasure, they'll be fine if that's all you want them for. Now if you are starting a breeding group out of them, by all means, you need to be very picky on them!!

Have you ever thought that is just DIRT?

The birds are worth what your willing to pay for them no matter what the quality. I am not into showing or an any kind of silkie expert, but judging anything from a photo is kind of foolish. You could be passing up a bargain, or you could be getting stung. If your that concerned on the quality make a appointment to meet her to look them over. Worth is subjective on the expectations of the buyer and seller.

You folks are way better than me at deciphering these blurry or too-far-away pics! I can't see squat.
