Are these buff orp chicks?

I don't remember by other buff orps having these darker colored bars running down either side of their backs? They were solid colored. Maybe I'm just losing it lol. Are these buff orps? Or are they another breed? I have been looking online but can't figure it out!


Here is a close up of their little backs. The others are Wyandottes. I just need to know if the others are buff orps or something else??

Yeah, those don't look like buff orpingtons to me either. They are something red. Probably a production red or red sex link of some sort.

I agree with StarMeKritten - they don't look like the buff orp chicks I've had in the past or seen at feed stores.

I got them at Tractor Supply and they have that whole area roped off so you can't get close, and my eyes don't see the greatest anymore, so it was not until I got home that I was like hmmm these are not buff orps.

I was doing a little more research... what about cinnamon queen?



I looked up the production red chicks, they seem too dark to be what I have...


The red sex link seemed too dark too.


I generally fail at chick identification, but some of yall have a real eagle eye!

With the stripes, they may well be female golden sexlinks (sometimes called golden comets). The good news on that is you can be sure you have girls!

So are cinnamon queen and golden comets the same? I googled them and some of the same pics came up and cinnamon queen was a suggested search option, so I was just checking lol. There seem to be many subtle differences in a lot of these breeds, and my eye is definitely NOT trained to spot them!

These were definitely supposed to be pullets, thank goodness! I also got 5 straight run wyandottes, hopefully they will all (or most all of them) be females or else they are going in some dumplins! I have 5 roosters currently, none of which I can talk myself into getting rid of or eating because they are either too sweet or too pretty lol. So you better either be pretty or have good personality at my house or you're gonna be a chicken nugget LOL. We need more ladies to even out the ranks a bit! Until then, the extra boys are just gonna have to chill in their bachelor pad!

Red sex links are a cross between a silver based hen and a red/ gold based rooster. Different hatcheries use different breeds in this cross and call them by all different names, including golden comets, red stars, isa brown, cinnamon queens and others. They are all red sex links with different "brand names".

Gotcha! I was sort of thinking maybe they just had different "brand names"..... Thanks for all the help guys! Case solved! lol

That is perfect! I was looking at the little wing feathers on them last night, and they look like they are going to be a a reddish orange and white color. For some reason I am not a big fan of solid colored chickens, I like some color, so I will be very pleased if these girls are multi-colored. The coloring in these sex links does not appear to be all too consistent, with some being more solid colored, and others having more spots or white areas?


Like these girls, so pretty! I will be very happy if my girls turn out like these!
