I have a few mixed breed chicks. They are 6 weeks old and I have two leglorns that are 5 weeks. Do you think it is to cold outside for them to go into a closed barn area? Here are some pictures of them feathering out.

Do you mean outside for good or outside for an outing? It all depends on the tempuratures where you are and, if you mean outside to the coop, the tempurature you can keep your coop. I see you're in New Hampshire, is it still pretty cool at night there?

Yeah Its like 60's 70's during the day and 40's 50's at night. They would be in a closed barn but will have some draft but I would still leave the heating light with them. What should there temp be right now?

They can go out, especially if you have a heat light where they can congregate if cold. Mine go out in the coop at about 3-4 weeks of age. Its quite a bit warmer here, but they have enough feathering to be fine. My 3 1/2 week olds are in an outside coop/run and I turned off the heat a couple of dats ago. They are fine. They go into the little enclosure if they get cold. Of course I have 26 of the little buggers so they can easily huddle to warm up.

It really depends on your location. In NH, I bet you're still get some cool or chilly nights. I would think that they're old enough to go out for an outing. We take all of ours out daily, they range in age from 1 week to 4 weeks. I would keep them in a brooder for a few more weeks. if you put them in a coop, I would make sure you have a heat lamp for them at night. Hope this helps!

They should be fine, just leave the heat lamp out with them in case it gets too cold. They will be happier anyway. I know mine are.

I agree. With a heat lamp they'll be just fine and happy to be in the "big girl house".
