Are these emu eggs fertile? Hatchalong

Pics
Might be able to put 4 or 5 more in there. Then will be at capacity. If she lays and the egg freezes, I’ll open it up next week. Or just get a wild hair and sacrifice one.

Fertile Emu eggs go for $100 in this area. Never looked up what a blown egg goes for… I’ll have to see what Craigslist has.
I don't think the local lady has any males so they wouldn't be fertile anyway. think it's totally worth trying to hatch as many as you can, I'm not trying to persuade you other wise. :] just thinking if you haven't seen them doing the dirty deed....too bad someone hasn't developed small house hold ultrasound machines. perhaps you can find a vet or a midwife that has one.
But of course I'm nutty and a bit paranoid ( mad inventor complex) so anything I say isn't 'do able' or 'rational' or 'why can't you just leave it alone?!' :wee

No no, I like your thinking! I’m normally the bright one… not this time. Didn’t think about cracking one open to see if it was fertile

After trying to hatch a couple batches of shipped emu eggs, I read about and watched so many videos on ways to tell if something is alive in there. Pretty much the tell tale sign is wiggling as early as 35 days. Some people have said they can hear moving at that stage with a stethoscope.

Now where to find a good one 🤔

Two more going in tomorrow after todays egg sits through the night. I believe 9 eggs can fit in that incubator comfortably. So 4 spots left after these.

That was a 5 day gap from the last egg. Hopefully her next egg misses the temperature drop into a single digit 🥶 The egg was cold but not frozen. I sure hope Goose has been doing his job!

I stopped getting notifications for some reason:( that just seems like such a long time to wait for eggs to hatch!!!

It is! It’s tough if you think about it. But not too too bad if you try to forget. I’m one of the cup is half full types, so 11 or so days are done already!

I’m adopting a less “hands on” approach to these eggs. If they’re fertile of course. I’m turning them about 5 times, but only to get more fresh air into the incubator. Half turns back and forth. Not weighing them. I don’t think the male emu looks at the eggs and rotates them perfectly at 180 😆

Trying not to worry about it while I’m at work. It is what it is unfortunately. Humidity is staying around 30% and temp is staying between 97.5 and 98. Had to put a blanket on the incubator to get it to hold those temps.

No cabinet incubator in the near future. Funds had to go to parts for my dirt bike. Coolant leak led to overheating and bad piston and rings. $1100 repair :idunno

That’s great! Not so great about the dirt bike though, but it will be fine!

Around 50 or 65 chickens and 5 turkeys. We tried ducks, but they turned almost everything into mud. There’s already a mud problem in Western Washington :p
