Are these emu eggs fertile? Hatchalong

Pics
Very good question! Not sure exactly. Flying by the seat of my pants with these things 😆

If the next one freezes I could sacrifice todays egg. Guess we shall see. Unless I just do it now… choices!

This thread is so exciting! Just curious, as I have never raised emus, but do you candle these at all? I imagine they're pretty thick and hard to see into.

Best of luck to you with the hatch! ♥️

Thank you :)

They’re far too thick and dark to candle unfortunately. Wiggles are the main way of telling if they’re alive. But sometimes they don’t wiggle so :idunno

I meant sacrifice the frozen egg and put that one in the bator. That one and the others would be close enough so it doesn't have to have a buddy.

Thought about that after my post… I was going to do it backwards 😂 You are right.

Yesterday I found another egg. We’re in the 40’s during the day now, so it’s not frozen. BUT… I may hold out for another week. If the first two eggs have a chick, they may start to wiggle in 7 or so days. So these two will go in this evening and just going to wait it out.

That will be 7 possible chicks brewing :fl

Definitely wait a week, no chicks should be wasted.

Agreed!

I have read numerous times that “typically” a female emu won’t lay unless she’s been bred. Two emu farmers in Florida said that same thing. They have 10+ breeding pairs. So just hoping Goosey Poo has been busy with Willy. I am gone all day during daylight hours during the week. So they do have time to do their business without an audience.

7 officially brewing. Lesson learned… don’t put a colder egg right next to the temperature sensor. The incubator will continue to heat up way past where it should be
