I had three out of five eggs that I set under a broody hen hatch over the weekend! One of the chicks has white on the flight feathers. Does that make him/her pied or split to white?
Thanks

The peas look great. Congratulations! Your duck needs help. I am new to this so I will not guess the colors, but they look fairly blue. I think one of them is male.

Yeap looks like Blues. And yes the one with the white prim. feathers is split to a white or is a dark pied.

Thanks BigByrd! What is the difference between split to white and dark pied anyway?

Visually, not much difference. Genetically, pretty big difference. Example:

Split to white bred with white= 1/2 white and 1/2 blue split whites.

Dark pied bred with white=100% pied.

This is why mostly normal colored birds with white flights and/or chin will always be called "split white or dark pied". Can't tell without knowing the parents or having results of said bird with a white bird.
