Just found out Mt. Healthy is another hatchery they use. I've also read that sometimes when hatcheries are low on supply they will drop ship from another hatchery so I guess anything is possible.

The tsc near me uses Hoover's. I wasn't sure how she got put in there, but using other hatcheries to meet supply and demand would make sense. I just consider myself super lucky, cuz she's an awesome little bird.

But given all the mix ups between tsc and hatcheries it's totally possible it's a rare breed chick.

I got a Pyncheon from tractor supply bantam bin. Super rare breed, the hatchery doesn't list them or offer them, but somehow I got her. View attachment 2092273

Yes it's possible to get rare breeds from hatcheries, I just meant that no hatcheries sell speckled sussex bantams.

So glad to run across your question, we also got a similar-looking bantam in our mix of chicks from TSC on 4/10. We’ve asked our chicken raising friends and she stumped most of them.

We would NOT mind some pretty colored eggs in our bunch! We weren’t sure because it didn’t have so much of the cheeks/beard.

@Abby1116 not all of them do... "hatchery quality" is a thing for a reason One of my EE bantams has no cheeks/beard.

I also ended up with a really poor quality silkie in my "assorted bantams" - it has no crest, no beard, and it only has 4 toes! Funny thing is, it's a self blue... so it's a very fancy colored poor quality silkie.

It was probably crossed with self blue OEGB or d'Uccle to get the colour
