Are these pullets?

You have quite a few cockerels.
Many of your boys are Red-Sex Links, which have the red patches and larger combs. The boy in your first picture is a prime example. You also have a buff Orpington rooster, and a Production Red boy. Your Buff Orpington Rooster is standing, and the pullets are on the milk create. Your Production Red rooster is in the last photo.

This man lied to me then. He had advertised on Craigslist. He said he only had pullets left and that he knew the difference since he had worked at two major hatcheries in the tri-state area.

I told him I would only come if they were all girls he was selling me since I already have more than enough males and it was almost a 2 hour drive one way. I also told him I run the farm myself and I am too busy to drive that far if they are not all pullets. He assured me he only had females.

When I got there I said some of them have quite big combs and wattles for females. He told me they had bigger combs and wattles because they were larger breed pullets and that they would be laying in 5 or 6 weeks from the day I got them which was 10/22/12.

The only reason I took the trip is I have a lot of customers that want to buy pullets so I figured I would keep a few and sell the rest but I did not want to sell any until I was sure.

They are very sweet but I think the reason many have hardly any tail is he had them so crowded together.

i see almost all cockerels inevery pic. i would be very mad and i would contact him and see what he says about returning them and i would put his contact info down so i wouldn't forget my experince with him

I have his info but for me to drive back there as I said almost 2 hours each way my time and the price of gas would make it an even bigger loss. I will watch for his posts in the future and flag them on craigslist. He is in the Phillipsburg, NJ area and that is what he puts on the post as location. I wonder how many others he did this to?

Though the ad did not say pullets but says chickens for fresh eggs they will lay. So I called and inquired and once on the phone he says they are all females and he has no males and he is sure of it. Shame on him.

I already put the red and buff that you guys are saying are males down in my barn group since they were past the 3 week quarantine but the others I need to get sold soon as they are eating so much, shame on him again.

Also 2 of them have foot trouble and he said his son stepped on them and it sure looks like that is what happened. The buff is now finally starting to put a little weight on her one toe and I have gotten the wounds on her leg to heal up fine. The white has what almost looks like a reversed foot that you can still move the right way but seems to get along fine considering. This guy had no business having birds, they were way too cramped.

Some of these guys have me stumped but I think the ones with the biggest combs and most visible pointy feathers are the cockerels... the white ones.

For all those who took the time to give their input here are the results: Out of the 28 "pullets" he sold me only 3 are actually pullets. 25 are cockerels. I sold 12 in November and hopefully will sell a lot more of them tomorrow. Of the remaining males 1 production red, 8 buff orps, 4 sex links.

Good question. We will reap what we sow and he will too I guess . If I ever see him post it on craigslist again I will report it so nobody else gets cheated. He also had said he got really sick form coccidiosis from biting his fingernails. God works all things together for good so somehow there will be a blessing in here, maybe even it was just a blessing for the birds themselves, most had no tails when I got them from being overcrowded and now they all look so nice and healthy and happy but I cannot keep all of them. Here are some pics of some of them I took today. As you can see a few were just getting their tails fully in now. I can say one thing for sure they eat a lot!
