Welps hatchery. Their description does say they are rapid growers. I'm going to call today. First I'm going to compare my birds weight to the chart they have on their website for meat birds. We'll see what that brings up.
It looks to me like meat birds cost less than egg layers ...
Plus, I'll have to slaughter them all soon, if they don't die first, because I haven't taken their food out each night for 12 hours starting at day 5!!!
About the feathers? I don't want to use the Sevin if they are meat birds ... but do if they are egg layers ....
Weighed my birds ... they came in at 1 1/4 lbs. My husband did the math ... I want to recheck it later, but for now ... that's my number.
The hatchery sight says they would be 2.75 at 4 weeks.
Wouldn't mine weigh more with the round the clock food??? I have had them on the 20% which is what Welps advises for the first 4-5 weeks.
Those are meat birds... No need to treat the feather issue...that's just the way they are...I have 2, 3 week old partridge rocks (same as the white rock but in a different color) and I can assure you they are no where near the size of your birds! If i had to guess, mine weigh about 1/4 of a pound. Also, they still have mostly chick fluff except on the wings and some feathers coming in on the tail. I had a few white rocks last year and they were the same as the chicks I have now. If you would like I can post a pic of my three week old chicks so you can definately tell that what you have is not white rocks...
i have raised both white rocks and the cornish cross
u have the cornish cross, even if it dont match the feed chart the white rocks dont generall have those bald spots.(growin faster then they can feather) anther good way to tell is they look a whole lot wider then white rocks, well good luck with them
Meat birds, switch to 12/12 feeding, and let auntie know so she can help with the butchering. There's some good info on the meat birds page. Want my coq au vin recipie?
