Are these white leghorns close to laying?

this was Mimzy on Oct. 16 and then Oct. 18 when she finally laid

she was 17 weeks & 3 days old when she first laid

Very true! I'm sitting on 9 dozen eggs praying that a few customers start buying them from me; that's less than 2 weeks worth of laying.

When it comes to leghorns, comb size is a predictor for sure.

Got a picture?

They don't have to have a big red comb to lay but it will have to be red. Once they molt and quit laying the comb shrinks and goes to a pinkish color.

I've found that keeping them under extended light all year makes it less effective.
