Are these worms????

I just witnessed one of my girls poop and I scooped it up and they are in the poop as well. They were moving and changing shape. Calling the vet to do a fecal sample. I am on the way to the vet and will report back.

So what was it? Tapes? And he gave Droncit?

Droncit is praziquantel. Praziquantel kills tapeworms. It is found in zimectrin gold which is a horse wormer paste. It is combined with ivermectin to kill other internal parasites. Dosage for chickens is a small "pea" size amount given orally to each chicken. I prefer the valbazen over the z-gold to kill ALL types of worms.

Sorry to keep everyone in suspense. I was left a message that indeed it is tapeworm and I had to call the vet back with all the weights of the girls. I now have to wait until tomorrow to find out what meds I need. I thought they would call me back by 6 pm.

Another day of waiting anxiously. I have noticed that more girls have the "worms" in their poop. I am now waiting for my dogs to give me a sample as they like to eat chicken poop. Great! I surely hope my dogs don't have it. But then again, I might as well worm everyone!

I mentioned the valbazen to the vet office and there is a pharmacy here that can get it for me from their supplier as none of the feed stores carry it. Just a waiting game now.

Tapes in dogs need the flea to complete its life cycle. The dog can't get tapes *from the chickens.

Thanks, good to know. I just need to stop the dogs from "cleaning up" after the chickens. Such a terrible habit anyhow.

Where do you buy your meds for chickens. I am raising silkies, and noticed this morning one of my 6 week old chicks just isn't acting as chipper as normal so I seperated from the rest of the flock and gave it save a chick and fresh food (Medicated chick starter). Any other suggestion on what to do and I would like to have my chick'n first aid kit stocked but tractor supply does not have alot for chickens.

I can purchase most meds from our local feed store. But for the tapeworm issue I am waiting for the vet to let me know what I need. Dawg53 mentioned jefferslivestock.com where you can purchase meds online. Valbazen was what he mentioned that will take care of all worms.

check out this site. You can also do a search and write in first aid and search in the emergencies/disease section. This should pull up quite a few threads to check out.
