Are these your chickens in Wake county NC?

So, I just updated the title because I found out these wonderful chicks were actually in Wake County, right on the border. Lol.

Please, please, please don't take this offensively, but put yourself in your neighbors' shoes for a moment... I would personally not want someone else feeding my pets without my permission... so long as they are being fed food they WILL eat and seem taken care of, I would always ask permission before offering food to someone elses' pet.

I mean, in the "egglaying" section of the forum, there are many posts about why birds aren't laying due to food changes... your idea of "help" may be causing digestive upset if your feed and treats are not what the birds' systems are accustomed to.

Again, please don't take what I've said as insulting. I just know that many people, like me, want to know what is going into our animals.

Oh, I don't.

But these very nice neighbors of mine really don't know much about chickens. They have asked me a lot of questions... I think the "novelty" of chicken care has slid off the kids' radar, too. When Mom feeds them, she does the whole change out the waterer, fill the feeder tasks.

Their small flock of 14 doesn't go into the Not-quite adequate coop at night, and a few of the ladies are laying eggs out on the ground... And I see the same eggs out there for two or three days in a row. That's generally when Mom takes over feeding the hens, the day she discovers ungathered eggs on the ground. (She's in a nursing programs and works long hours,...)

I know they're being fed layer crumbles. I don't think strawberry tops and some shredded mozzarella cheese every couple of weeks will upset the feed apple cart- those, the neighbors know about because I did ask about that. The extra feed one or two days a week, well, I haven't mentioned that to them. <*guilty expression*>

hahahaha, we are all sick!! DW makes fun of me all the time. When we go by a nice backyard she sees me looking in and asks me...did you build a coop back there yet? lol I'm always looking for coops or the possibilties for coops! lol

Do we need to start a "chicken stalkers annonymous" group? lol I'm guilty of checking out other coops I see too.

I see chicken coops in everything I like to say "that would make a nice chicken coop" about everything including the kids school bus and my sons RV.

I'm always excited to see chickens running around in someones yard or a big pen behind their house. Unfortunately its something you see less and less of. We travel between Okla. and Tn. alot and its os disapointing that I can count the flocks I see on one hand! I think everyone should have a home flock!

Just the other day my boyfriend and I were driving and looking for houses (looking for our first home to buy) and he said, "I think I saw a coop in their backyard." So naturally I pulled over and turned around so we could go look..

I basically came to a stop in front of this person's yard before I realised that there was a chance they were home and were probably creeped out.

I think it'd be awesome to have a neighbor with chickens, or at least someone close by.
