Are they getting enough food?

We're very new to keeping chickens and worry that they're not eating enough.

Should we be checking that they have a full crop just before bed time??
What's the best way of telling that they've all eaten enough!?!?!

I always simply keep their feeders full.

Mine don't eat too much of their feed during the day, mostly because I let them out in my yard for several hours and they usually get a few goodies during that time. My girls will always gorge themeselves on feed before they head up to roost though, their crops will feel like tennis balls as soon as they are all roosting.
