my baby redgolden pheasants are about 5 weeks old now. Are they old enough to put into an outside pen without a heat light, or should I wait awhile longer? thanks for everyones help.

Ive never owned red goldens before, but I move my Chukars, Ringnecked pheasants, and quail all outside at around 4 weeks old and they've all done fine. I do start them with a heat lamp in their cage cut down really low, more for light for them to eat at night than for heat though. As long as they are fully feathered, which they should be now, I'd say all is ok to put them outside with the assumption that nights aren't getting below 60's in indiana.

My answer would be no. Unless you are in an area where the temps are higher. 5 week old chicks still need some sort of heat whether it be normal or artificial. The best thing to do is to give them the choice. They can go out but can still come in to the heat lamp if they get cold.
