I am new to the forum and to keeping chickens. About 3 months ago I bought 15 chicks from a guy in the local classifieds. He said that they were golden and silver laced Wyandotte pullets. Well, we have one rooster for sure, his comb is much larger and he is much more aggressive. Now, I know that sexing chicks is not always exact, so I kinda expected that. The problem is that I am wondering if they are really Wyandottes at all. 5 were lost due to predation as we were working out the kinks of the new coop. (They are happily living in their new predator proof coop.) Of the 10 we have now there are 2 golden laced, 5 silver laced and 3 barred. The barred were an unexpected surprise. The roo is a barred. The thing that makes me suspect their heritage is that they all seem to have a single comb. I did read that sometimes you will get a Wyandotte with a single comb, but as I understand it is not all that common. Is 3 months to early to tell or do you think they are something else. Is there another bred that comes in golden and silver laced?
