I was looking for chicken treats at an agriculture supply store and the clerk said that you shouldn't overfeed hens mealworms. According to him, a handful of them could produce an egg so big it rips tissues whilst coming out. Is this true?

No, that's not true. However too many could be bad in the sense that if you feed them too much and they don't eat their staple food as a consequence, they may miss out on vitamins and minerals and calcium.
