Are we giving this girl a complex calling it "him"? :)

Hi all! I'm new here, and to the world of chickens!
So far, I've gotten TONS of great info from this forum, as I've lurked over the weeks.

We bought these three about 8 wks ago. I believe they were all just days old, if I remember correct.

The black one was said to be a black sex link. This was the only one that we knew "for sure" was a pullet.
My sister and I are quite clueless, and let some random shopper at the co-op convince us the other two were
as well.

The yellow is suppose to be a production red, pullet.
And the big gray "guy", that acts like he/she owns the place..and kind of
scares my husband, with it's giant black legs, is SUPPOSE to be a female araucana.
I'm obviously having doubts about gender. But, now someone at the feed store told me
it looks more like an ameraucana??

Anyone have any insight...?? Is Popper going to the poultry trade next weekend?

We're soooo new to all of this. And just kind of "wingin it" :)

Thanks so much!!

Sorry for the terrible pic. My 8 year old (keeper of the chickens) took it with his iphone.

The blue is a male, though not an Araucana-could be an Ameraucana because it has slate legs and good blue color, though not much of a beard or muffs at this point.

The other two appear to be pullets right now.

Can't see the comb on the black one well enough to tell if it's a pea or a single comb. Black sex links usually have more gold/brown in the chest area than that one does.

Ok..thanks. Pretty much what I thought. But, I've seen so many hens on here, that I thought were roosters. I have a LOT to learn..:)

Good pic taken by your 8 year old! We can actually pretty much see everything we need to on all of them except for the comb on that black one. Good job!

Agree with Speckledhen so I won't repeat, but that blue boy sure is a pretty bird!

does the blue have a single comb? If they all came from a feed store then u have a Production red ( could be rooster based on thick legs and the way it stands), Blue is an Easter Egger, cant tell gender yet, and black looks like an astralorp or black sex link pullet.

We were iffy about the production red. Thought for a bit, it was a male because it grew so fast..and also started to get a comb really early. But, it seemed to slow down in growth. Both with it's comb, and it's body.
It's the most docile and friendliest of the three.

What do you mean by single comb..? Has several little bumps...and started to get red around it's beak the last couple days.

Single comb would be like the production reds comb. Easter Eggers (americanas) should have a pea comb.

this is a Pea Comb

Hmm..I wanna say it's more of a pea comb. I think...lol. It's bumpy..and kind of gross looking.
