It's been *ugh* over 35 years since I've been in high school. The food wasn't that bad then, I think kids today are just spoiled. What is school food like in other countries? Any idea?

There is a big push going on in the US for government to make school meals free permanently. I can't decide how i feel about that.Seventy years ago when basic education turned mandatory and free in Iran ( up to high school Diploma) Iran was still a poor country and not oil rich so folks did not send their kids to school so the kids could help them in income . So the shah of Iran turned to a program that was called : free school meal. It was one light meal every day .
In less than two years the students number raised three times.
in 1980 after the Islamic revolution the free school meal was stopped but it had no effect on students number anymore since Iran was now oil rich.
I think its bs that people I live with their kids get free lunches because im on ebts both parents have good paying jobs to and they dont pay for any of my things and i think people with no kids shouldnt be paying school taxes I dont have kids why do i need to pay for that...There is a big push going on in the US for government to make school meals free permanently. While i understand how nice that would be for parents and students both, we already have a free and reduced lunch program for low income families.
Many people do not realise that we rely on reimbursement from the government already even for student meals that pay *full price*
Even full price paid meals do not cover the cost of the meal plus labor plus equiptment plus electricity and water etc etc etc..
Plus there's always the lunch bills that get charged up and never paid. and trust me. No school lunch cook is getting paid a wadge that could support a family.
Food programs go in the hole very quickly without careful management.
Everyone is complaining this year about paying for school lunches.
Well.. i challenge anyone to come up with a meal plan that provides the amount of options we are required to provide and keep the plate cost any less AND make it edible.
No mystery meat!!
Where do people think money for the food program comes from?
Tax payers.
Who are already paying for your childs public education regardless if they have children in school themselves or not.
Public school may not be perfect but at least it's available.
And people want free meals too? Nothing is free people. Working class citizens are footing the bill.
You think anyone in DC. Is going to take a wadge reduction to pay for free school lunches?
No way in hades.
Ok. Rant over.
I have no dog in this fight but I like to say:There is a big push going on in the US for government to make school meals free permanently. I can't decide how i feel about that.

You have a point.I think its bs that people I live with their kids get free lunches because im on ebts both parents have good paying jobs to and they dont pay for any of my things and i think people with no kids shouldnt be paying school taxes I dont have kids why do i need to pay for that...
Because you *did* go to school at some point. And you didn't pay for it then. And the taxes your parents paid didn't cover all the costs either. And because everyone in a society benefits by the education system educating the kids.I think its bs that people I live with their kids get free lunches because im on ebts both parents have good paying jobs to and they dont pay for any of my things and i think people with no kids shouldnt be paying school taxes I dont have kids why do i need to pay for that...
Absolutely agree with that statement. Kids need to eat to be able to learn. I want kids to be able to eat.I have no dog in this fight but I like to say:
You can't learn a lesson when you are really hungry.
But I am not sure how many students are so desperate and down in luck that this potential program can help them.
I'm noticing this too.Editing to add this..
There are lots of kids who recieve free and reduced lunch that seem to have pleanty money in their account to buy extras such as chips, cookies, ice cream and drinks.
What they said.I think its bs that people I live with their kids get free lunches because im on ebts both parents have good paying jobs to and they dont pay for any of my things and i think people with no kids shouldnt be paying school taxes I dont have kids why do i need to pay for that...
Yes. I can see how it could Still seem a bit unfair but some taxes are definitely a neccesary evil.Because you *did* go to school at some point. And you didn't pay for it then. And the taxes your parents paid didn't cover all the costs either. And because everyone in a society benefits by the education system educating the kids.
