Are we open to Criticism in BYC?

There is a big push going on in the US for government to make school meals free permanently. I can't decide how i feel about that....
.... i challenge anyone to come up with a meal plan that provides the amount of options we are required to provide and keep the plate cost any less AND make it edible....
There was a strong push for people to eat school lunches instead of bringing their own when my kids were in elementary school - years ago.

It went beyond multiple fliers and so on. They actually told me my kids would "eat better." :lau:lau:lau

I can laugh now but it made me pretty mad at the time. If they were going to single me out directly and personally, the way they did, they should either have some idea what my kids were eating at school or else some idea of what constituted better nutrition. Mine got far more nutrition and less junk than their offerings.

Absolutely agree with that statement. Kids need to eat to be able to learn. I want kids to be able to eat.
But. why should it be the schools responsibility or the taxpayers responsibility to make sure your kid eats. And again i say... there is a free and reduced lunch program already in place for low income families.
Last I knew if you qualified for food stamps you automatically qualified is qualified for free school lunches.

Now I haven't had to fill out one of those papers for a long time my kid is 24. So maybe they need to raise the income guidelines to match our current economy situation.
I do not have a kid but I look at the money that is spent on education like this:

Me and you pay school taxes so kids stay at school and find their future so they do not turn to thieves so me and you can keep our garage door open not being worried about thieves since the society is a better place for all of us due to money spent on education.

I agree. I'm just sayin people want MORE. and MORE and more.
And don't seem to have any appreciation for what they already have.
And have no concept of where the money will come from for more free stuff.

I caught a cat in my live trap last night and was about to release it but after reading this I have decided to make Sunday dinner instead. Thanks!
Hmmm.....
I wonder? Does cat/dog taste like chicken?
Everytime someone tries something "different" it taste like chicken.
Do all cultures eat chicken?

Totally get that. And that is why there was such a big reform on the school lunch program several years ago. People that were running the programs were getting away with serving canned ravioli, pizza and hot dogs frequently... lots of french fries desserts etc.
Well of course kids like that stuff.
You can't win for losing.
Now they are required to have a half a cup of fruit/vegatable on their tray in order for it to be a reimbursable meal and 50 percent of bread items must be whole grain..
Guess how much of that goes in the trash?
Because teaching proper nutrition starts at home.
At home they eat canned ravioli and pizza rolls.

My daughter tried to be a good guest in another country. She hadn't realized chicken feet and bones were edible. When she noticed what others were doing, she ate them too.

All was good until the next meal when they asked why she was trying to eat the pork bones. Oops, not all bones were considered edible there.

While i understand how nice that would be for parents and students both, we already have a free and reduced lunch program for low income families.
Many people do not realise that we rely on reimbursement from the government already even for student meals that pay *full price*
Even full price paid meals do not cover the cost of the meal plus labor plus equiptment plus electricity and water etc etc etc..
Plus there's always the lunch bills that get charged up and never paid. and trust me. No school lunch cook is getting paid a wadge that could support a family.

Food programs go in the hole very quickly without careful management.

Everyone is complaining this year about paying for school lunches.
Well.. i challenge anyone to come up with a meal plan that provides the amount of options we are required to provide and keep the plate cost any less AND make it edible.
No mystery meat!!🤣

Where do people think money for the food program comes from?
Tax payers.
Who are already paying for your childs public education regardless if they have children in school themselves or not.
Public school may not be perfect but at least it's available.
And people want free meals too? Nothing is free people. Working class citizens are footing the bill.
You think anyone in DC. Is going to take a wadge reduction to pay for free school lunches?
No way in hades.

Ok. Rant over.

Almost.
Editing to add this..

There are lots of kids who recieve free and reduced lunch that seem to have pleanty money in their account to buy extras such as chips, cookies, ice cream and drinks.
