Are Welsummers roosters docile?

My new 2018 Murray McMurray hatchery catalog says that Wellsummers have
"a docile temperament". Does anyone know if that's true?

Do you all know of any standard breeds that tend to have a docile rooster?

I need to order new chicks in the spring, and I want a rooster that is most likely, (((hopefully))), nice. ~:>

Sure would appreciate your help!
Amma :)

Any rooster can be aggressive or docile. It depends on how you raise him and if you've established that you are dominant.
However, more docile breeds include (including roosters):
  • Orpingtons
  • Cochins
  • Barred Rocks
  • EEs
Roosters that are
  • Sumatra
  • Old English Games
  • Pheonix
Breeds tend to fight more, especially with eachother.

Good to know! Thanks Welshies! :)

I've only had 1 rooster and he just happened to be a Welsummer. He was a gentleman to the ladies and never gave me any problems at all. And he was gorgeous, one of the prettiest birds I've had.

He is very beautiful. If only I had more space- I'd have Wyandottes and Welsummers. Two very pretty breeds.
Wyandotte roosters are also gentlemen as well.

Thanks everyone for the info and links! BIG help!

So, I placed my chick order today! My chickens free-range here on our farm, and I have our grandchildren drop in every day, so I went with a Welsummer bantam rooster, and 8 RIR hens. This way, should the rooster become mean, he's small and can't cause as bad injuries as a standard rooster can. ;)
I always handle my chicks to get them use to me, so hopefully we'll have a happy coop, large eggs, and a BEAUTIFUL rooster!
....The chicks come April 30th! Can't wait!

This pic of a Welsummer rooster is with permission from The Way of the Chicken. :) He's so handsome!
