Are You A Brinsea Owner? - April Hatch Along - Prize: Ecoglow Brooder!

So, I just had a strange thing happen. I am hatching in an Eco 20. The 2nd of my chicks to hatch this morning was a bit bloody, and the tissue connection to the egg did not release. The Navel? is about a half inch long and hanging from the back of the chick. Initially it was wrapped around the foot. I removed the chick and slid the foot out from the tissue loop. should I remove(snip?) the tissue tail, allow it to dry naturally and fall off, or cull the chick? ANy ideas? Thanks

Hope everyone's hatches go well! Just put my 17 eggs into lockdown. 10 Russian Orloffs, 5 Ameraucanas, and 2 Crevecoeurs. Everyone looks good when I candled last night. I hope everyone hatches.

This will be my biggest hatch so far.

The GREAT thing about BRINSEA is that after they are programed~they with stand power outages~I moved both of my Mini Advanced~decided on a better place for one and the other could not hold the heat temp because the room was too cold~so you don't have to panic or hurry just get everything set up & carefully move it to another space. Good Luck w/ UR hatch !

I just read about unhealed navels today somewhere on the web...they said cause was too high temps or humidity. I think I'd let it dry naturally but if with other chicks...they will pick at it so would isolate for a few days.

I am allowing it to dry and it seems to be working. Luckily, there are only 2 others out, so the pecking has been kept to a minimum. It looks as though I may have shrinkwrapped another emerging chick in my haste to help the Naveled girl. outer shell broken away, interior membrane looks dry and leathery. There are other pips, however, so I dare not reopen the top. Thank you for the advice, Luke

Interesting that the other 2 chicks hatched so far are not having the same issue. Though the heat may well be the problem. A power outage and subsequent emergency woodstove heating, then a trip to town for a power source, has been rough on them.. stoked anyone is making it.

Count me in...I have Sebbie goose eggs due the 10th to the 12th. All sorts of chickens due the 12th. A Midget White Turkey and various duck eggs due the 19th. My Brinsea 380 will be cranking them out!

Edited to add type of Brinsea used.
