are you kidding me?

People living in MH's were already there.

The mayor said doublewide MH's are allowed, not single wides: http://www.foxalabamanews.com/2011/05/fema-trailers-for-storm-victims-not.html AKA: wants "young professionals" to move there...not those that might consider living in a trailer actually normal, lol.

Believe it or not, some folks happily live in MH's or RV's their entire lives, lol. The residents have already voiced their opinions and they want the fema trailers, as anyone would that was actually living in the midst of nothing but destruction with everything gone.

Never said anything about being unhappy in a MH. I lived in one for years and was perfectly happy. Just saying I wouldn't do it in tornado county, even with all the destruction....I would be afraid of another tornado.

Betcha that Mayor Dippity-Do plans to invest in real estate, after the discouraged locals have moved out and sold their land cheap... Then he'll sell it to those "young professionals" that he's courting. That's the only reason I can think of for leaving the populace in tents!

X2! I know that i'd be camping in his yard... and going potty in his bushes by his front door.... hanging my clothes to dry on his fence....

Oh, look! Guess what Cordova's police department and city hall are operating out of right now? FEMA trailers!

The police chief says the law is to keep out "bad people". Hmmm, what am I living in? Gee, it's a single-wide trailer. And what bad things do I do? Keep chickens, for one!

Well, like I said, the people that have been tragically effected have spoken and they're they only ones that matter...and they want the shelter, regardless of what anyone else might think of temp trailers or regardless of what one might think they would not do in the same situation.

In general to the thread, the people there are without much, if any, voice right now in the face of such loss and tragedy...hopefully the rest of the nation will be their voice if theirs is not heard stat.

I haven't seen updated knews on the situation but hopefully the wheels are in motion at this point and shelter is being provided.

Since FEMA is a federal agency, can't they just go over the mayor's head on this? Can the people appeal to the state government itself to request federal aid for them? The state isn't the one keeping them out, just this one mayor as far as I'm aware, and in the grand scheme of things, the mayor is just a small fish in a big pond and would probably bow if he had a lot of pressure coming from higher up the food chain.
