We just sold our house and are looking at one in Parker. House hunting with chickens is so much harder then I ever expected it to be.

6 illegal chickens and so far so good! We have 5 neighbors so we strategically built our coop and have fabric on our run so no one can see inside. I often wonder if they know we have them and it doesn't bother them, or if they haven't figured it out yet. Our city is undergoing by-law updates and in September they should be legalized! Can't wait for the day when I can let them roam free and clear in our yard :)

There are days I wish I had to look up the meaning. The day I got a letter about the 5 dandelions in our yard would be one.

idk if this is a stupid question or not, but why would you get a letter (of complaint im guessing?) about having some dandelions in your yard? i mean what if you like to garden and you eat the flowers in dishes you eat? do they really try to dictate what can be grown in your own yard?

If I ever get a letter about weeds in my yard, I'm going to open a big ol' can of tail-whooping and pour it all over some pathetic fool.

Yes they can tell you what you can't grow, especially in your front yard, up to type of tree. They also tell you what color to paint your home or any outside improvements. (some even control the inside a bit

) The only reason we got the letter was because we got caught between squabbling neighbors. That is mostly when HOA's get bad. The are more weapons than anything. On there own they only really bother a person if they are doing something that is a large violation, mostly anything that will devalue the homes around them or causes a serious nuisance.

I cannot imagine any reason within the bounds of sane logic for me to live under such ridiculous regulations. I prefer to live miles from town....off the beaten path.

Our 15 acre property straddles two towns. One town allows up to 4 chickens, one allows up to 15. We have 9. I figure if its ever an issue, I just move the coop a few feet!

We sit far enough back that it will never be an issue, since you cant see our house from the street. Our neighbors have horses and goats, so my little chickies are nothing noise-wise compared.

Sorry to those of you that are dealing with HOAs. I've never lived anywhere with an "active" one. I would be so mad! Seems to me if you bought it, you can do what you want with it.
