She has a watering schedule and my guess is the AC people showed up right before it started, plus she was cleaning up from a storm. I know I have gone outside to empty water bottles with my rabbits, and it is NOT because they are neglected. It is because they drink like fish!!!

They didnt think they had water because they didnt see water crocks or bottles. What they didnt know was there was automatic waterers lines to the cages and the "rescuers" unhooked that hose to fill bowls of water for some rabbits.

My rabbits only get fed small amounts twice a day ( pregnant/nursing doe and babys get 24/7) so they dont end up over weight so most afternoons anyone who would show up at my place would not see food in my cages.

Most of the dead rabbits were in the freezer and had been processed on purpose as meat for the local zoo. Aparently only one kit was dead and it was at an age that it is easy to loose them at.

So many details were not included. I have been emailing Ms Strickland to encourage her through this tough time. So much was wrongly stated.

Poor Lady! Some people just need to keep their noses out of others business!

Seriously? If true, the breeder should definitely use that to call into question how this was dealt with and covered. I was wondering if the "aggressively thirsty, reaching up for lowered bowls of water" could possibly just be the natural curiosity shown by animals such as rats and rabbits. Mine always "reach up" to see what I'm lowering towards them. May not eat or drink whatever it is, but they are always still rabidly curious. Both not recognizing that they had an automatic watering system (common and reliable...I love them and we decrease losses by a lot in labs that have over a thousand mice as opposed to water bottles that can potentially get stuck, which is hard to notice), and then if they misread a common sign of curiosity as thirst (I would assume that they then did not check skin elasticity, etc. for signs of dehydration)...the breeder should definitely use that to point out incompetency and lack of experience on their part. If true, that is completely mind boggling to me. Giant spigot in the back of each cage. They didn't press on that or see what the hose attachments were?

The article says she was at work? How was she getting ready to start her schedule and cleaning up after a storm if she wasn't even there? The only time any of my rabbits don't have water is when the doelings' balls get stuck inside their spout. I don't know what makes it do that, but a few times it has been stuck and I haven't noticed. I bought water bottle spouts that fit on a 2-liter bottle so they'd have plenty...they never run out but I refill everyday.

These people dont know jack. So does that mean when we have chickens and they are free ranging when its 90+ outside that its cruelty? She had a swamp cooler that was running they even say it and it was only 4 degrees over the optimal degrees. Thats just the temp best to be kept at, thats like a best by date on a canned item. I tell you now that if any of these people have animals we could go to there house and point out stuff that is not optimal for that animal. I hope this lady gets them back with restitution from what she lost in this whole thing.

Interesting. Some updates. Now they are 200 'sick rabbits'. The sickness shown? One angora with butt matts but fairly clean fur:

They also released her name and website, which always just bugs the crap out of me. But anyway, looking at this video, yes, it seems like there are no automatic waters (unless she had some installed more recently), and someone said it was the hose to the swamp cooler that was disconnected.

The rabbits in both videos look healthy and used to handling.

This was also interesting:

There was another thread about my personal experiences with the HRS as well as someone else's:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=514391&p=2
If they are indeed involved, that definitely makes me raise a brow personally, though I only can really speak of the Virginia branch HRS. Still, my experience with AR groups (some call HRS animal welfare, the branch I spoke with was against any breeding, so it seems to vary) in general means they are not groups that I trust. The agenda tends to come well, well before the facts.

Seems to me like a lot of people have their hands in this pie.

They should have NOT given her name and website out! This lady is going to be terrorized by Animal Welfare groups and P.E.T.A.

The only rabbits they showed were the ones that had matted fur! Not the other 100+ others! Big deal they have matted hair! Rabbits especially the long haired ones get matted hair and feces and urine on their hair!

If all 200 were sick they should have showed us all of the 200 sick ones!

ETA: It also says at the end of the video that the judge will decide on if the lady gets her rabbits back or not. I hope she gets all her rabbits back!
