Are you Prepared?

One thing we are going to try to do, besides bug out bags, is prep a tub for each of us, that is stored in a seperate building ( our green house in this case) from our house, for just in case we had a house fire.
We heat with wood, so that chance is slightly higher then if we did not.
It would include a full change of clothes, toiletries and shoes, as well as a good extra coat, gloves and hat.

in my basement i have water, granola bars, canned food and a manual can opener, canned fruit, I even have canned milk and the milk thats in a tetra pack thats good for a year and everytime i change the batteries in the smoke detector I rotate my milk stock, and donate my "old" ones to the food bank (they are still good for 6 - 8 months at time of donation) I have a ton of candles (the long burning kind emergency ones) and matches
in my shed i have propane the disposable bottles (limited quanties)
I have chickens in my coop it things became desperate
I also have boat flares
I have enough gas/fuel on hand for the vehicles to get me to my aunts (5 hours away) her house is the designated disaster meeting place for the family because she lives off the grid solar and wind power for everything
all in all I am good for about 4 - 6 months

I have a family of four, there's enough to see the 4 of us 6 months, but I wouldn't be able to turn away children, and the cabin sleeps 8 comfortably. So if it came to it, yes i'd have room/supplies to give assistance, but to be honest i'd not advertise that.

you have to be careful with gas... it will go "bad" or after a while.. (about 6 months)

Saddina that's pretty much what I figured I'd do (If/When)... I don't think I'd have the stomach to turn away a child... the parent who blew their $300k/yr salary on Armani, yes... but an innocent kid... I highly doubt it. But I agree, wouldn't blab it around or everyone would show up and you'd be up a creek!! But, it is nice to see I'm not the only soft touch.

Hence the reason you always rotate what you store, regardless of what it is.
