Are You Stocking Up On Food?

Oh yeah.. I am native american. But still not an american. BUT I am one of the first Americans!

And hopefully, you are not one of the last Americans. As to the question about Iran enriching uranium, why would a nation that sits on a sea of oil need nuclear power? People that chant "Death to America" are not peaceful people. I will take them at their word. Ahmadinejad's careless rhetoric is going to plunge this world into a horrible war that no one can win.

Be prepared. When you see the mushroom cloud, it will be too late.

Last night watched a show about the various doomsday preps the government has in place.Funny how it is not insane for the government to prep, but if you are the average citizen who does then you are a nutty prepper.

Human history shows us one group will always take from another even if is from members of their own group.Survival is the goal.

Regardless of the future food stocking makes good sense given the price increases.

The irony. People that want to 'bomb bomb Iran' (who by the way, has done nothing to us) are peaceful people? Hmmm.....

We will take all the above mentioned reasons, whether real, hype or paranoia as valid reasons to toss a little extra in the grocery cart. Losing your job, hours cut back, garden excess that you freeze or can, disasters of all kinds, all are good reasons to have food put back for lean times. All responses have been intresting and I have appreciated all who have posted what they are or are not doing to feel a little more secure about their culinary future.

Here in east Texas, we are having a bumper pecan crop. The trees in town are loaded. I have always walked the neighborhood, picking pecans out of the street and a couple of vacant lots. What I see different this year is a lot more people doing the same thing. They even bring rakes to pull the branches down (in the city parks) so they can pick off the pecans before they even hit the ground. I saw several people throwing large sticks up in the branches to rattle down the pecans. Free food. Are they hungry? Taking advantage of pecans for free? A little nervous about food supply?

I don't know, I just know I haven't ever seen people out scrounging like this before. Durnnit! Them are MY free pecans! ..........grumble grumble.......... There was even a guy in a electric wheelchair under my favorite tree today and he got them all. He had a big bag full. I guess I'd better go earlier to beat the wheelchair guy.

We don't want to bomb Iran, but we do want to prevent a war that no one can win. The ball is in Iran's court. They can shut Ahmadinejad's yap and stop spewing hatred. A good first step would be to take down all of those hateful banners. Then they could stop fiddling with uranium. If they feel they need nuclear generated power, those units could be located in Russia, controlled by Russia but owned by Iran.

That way, Iran would have the power they want but not access to bomb grade uranium.

It's an old method and not recommended except for dry goods. Mom knew some people who died when she was in school from botulism from oven canning. It's a small town there so that isn't good odds.

We put up corn, bean, tomatoes, pasta sauce, salsa, peach jam, fig-strawberry jam, blueberry jam, and anything else from the garden. Canned deer meat , chicken and made corned meat out of deer meat and canned it too. sun- dried tomatoes.
