Are your ducks breeds as their standard suggests?

What about my indoor runner!!! She's the most friendly ducky around :) We cuddle everyday. Although she is a runner mix. (Either mixed w/ buff or kc:idunno) She had a fawn and white runner mom though and her runner is dominant!

Gil is a runner mix (as listed above!)...
She is kind of loud and I can get her excited and she'll get really loud! She knows night and morning time to be quiet time though. She's really smart! She's super affectionate which could just be due to her being an indoor duck from day 1 and thinking her human parents are her real parents. She can be a little bit... um... rude I guess I could say to strangers.... She tries biting onto the end of their shirt or sweatshirt sleeves and get's a little loud... Usually she's really sweet though! She makes the cutest faces too and her runner body is just too cute

Aww that is so sweet, love the pics

Tss no friendly runners!

Here they hop on your lap if you are not carefull!

And unfortunately I don't have any pictures of when we accidentally forget that the door is open and they just suprise hop on us on the couch when watching TV or standing next to our bed trying to get in while we sleep :')

Well.. 'friendly'. We call them more spoiled brats. Everyone that comes here they pull them by their trousers demanding snacks. And when they make the mistake to give them snacks and after that are sitting they might be in danger that they jump on their laps. Or shoulder.

I guess we are both right about the term 'friendly'.

so sweet!!
all these pics are great

Our ducks all meet the standard. They eat, poop, drink water, waste water, drill in the mud, quack, or rasp. The Runner is the calmest when picked up and he also watches for danger the most. The KC hen makes the most sounds but is not the loudest. KC drake is the best flyer. One Rouen hen IS the loudest. The other quacks at any sound of runnin water. The Pekin hen makes some weird clucking sounds and used to be the loudest. That was this week. It may change in the morning.

Funny Gabby my runner is the most alert too, she is the first to notice things .
Yep poop poop mate, poop waste water. lol

Im sure she is so friendly because she was imprinted to humans. Unfortunately it is not possible to potty train a duck because the don't have the muscle to hold it in. They poop when they have to, where ever they are. If she's walking around the room, she'll usually go to her pen if she needs to poop. Once in a while I have to grab a lysol wipe and clean anything up. If she's hanging out for a while, we have duck designated blankets and towels we'll throw down over us, the couch, the car etc. and if she goes to the bathroom, it's on something I can easily shake off outside and throw in the washer. We have duck diapers but I try not to use them... I'll put it on if were going out in public into a store or a persons house. She lives indoors full time and I just feel like it would be so unfair to make her wear a diaper full time. It works out pretty well though and her pen isn't too difficult to keep up with.

When I first got my 2 ducks I got them at the same time with 2 bantam chicks. They stays inside with me for about a month. I work from home so I was always right there, they were kept in an xtra large dog crate. I would let them wander the room and had doggie potty pads everywhere, but chickens loved to scratch them so they would end up all bunched up. so I was always cleaning the floor, and the crate.

Worth it though. then when I finally got them used to the outside my 2 other ducks came in and chicks so I started the whole process over again.

Another good example of what can happen if enough time is spent with them. Super cool. Every runner I've ever been around has been crazy skittish, but I still think they're hilarious. Like little bowling pins running about.

haha! When I got my first two ducks I was told they were both runners, well Gabby was the only runner, and Zeke was a Rouen which is totally find, I wanted a Rouen, but I didn't realize it until they started getting older and i seen their bodies were different, I wonder if Gabby is a mix because it rare I see her stand straight up

Sounds exhausting but rewarding! I say that literally as my duck is running away with my phone charger, yikes! Picked her up and her bill oddly smells like pretzels... hmm, I wonder now where the crushes pretzles on the floor came from. she’s not one to get into trouble but man she’s being bad right now!!!! No pretzels and no phone charger!!!
