Are your geese done laying for the year?

I had a feeling Missy would be a good broody.

Poor Sammy. I felt bad for a few of my ganders when their mates went broody, but they wait patiently for their mates to return and otherwise deal with it.

I have a feeling Freddie will be a very patient father/mate.

When she is on the nest, he just walks around surveying his "land" or sits calmly outside their barn waiting for her to come out.

Well I am pretty sure Missy is full time broody now, very much relieved, although I didn't think I'd hatch her eggs since they will be mixed but to get her to stop laying it will be worth it. Plus I think this will be a nice mix. Not sure if any of the eggs are fertile even though they mated all the time even 2X day often. I will candle this coming Friday it will be about a week into her brooding. I should be able to see some veining by then?

I'm pretty sure Beatrice's eggs will be fertile and I don't care if they actually hatch (although some goslings this year would be an unexpected treat since I figured I'd have to wait until Spring 2014 to get them) as my main goal was to get her to STOP laying for this season.

I'm not sure since I have read first year fertility can be low, and when I candled previous eggs being brooded by my duck there was nothing after 2 weeks so if we get any goslings it will be a blessing. She is so wanting the ducklings we have right now I have to watch her close when she comes out she tries to run off mama duck so she can get the ducklings. UGH!

I don't have a goose here who is old enough to lay eggs... but I have a gander who's aggression is disappearing!

Boris is much more fun to be around now that the goslings are getting, well, huge!

Still can't get over just how big they are now. Mary and Martha are a few days shy of 12 weeks and the 3 Toulouse are 7 weeks and the Embden is 6-7 weeks old. Hopefully I will be able to report when my geese are done laying for the year!

I hope so too fm, but we need to see some pics of all these babies that are getting so big.

as for not being fertile the first year.... I have an Embden Gander that turned 1 on March 11 of this year. He had 2 girls, one that's a 2 year old and one that turned 1 on May 2nd. They had a 90% or better fertility rate.

Beignet now has 5 eggs in her nest. I don't know if she will go broody. She went broody before, but I busted up her nest and gave her goslings which she adopted. But now she's laying again and the pair of goslings (almost juveniles) seem to want to help.

Boy these geese are laying into June wow that is awful late to still be laying. I know if you keep taking their eggs away from them they will lay until they feel they have enough to go broody on.... That is why we take them away to keep them laying for more eggs from each goose. These girls you's have are taking it to a new level....
