Are your geese done laying for the year?

RURU do you feed oyster shell also? My girl eats it regularly plus layer pellets. I'm going to keep her on both for the winter instead of maintenance pellets to hopefully increase her calcium stores. Every single egg has had a perfect shell.

Missy laid another egg, and I'm trying real hard not to worry but enough is enough. already. Out of all the eggs she has laid there were only 2 that were wonky. sianara I give all my layers OS too.

Patti, I don't blame you for being worried about Missy. It will be a relief when she stops.

I too wish my girls would stop laying, but yesterday I had 4 girls lay eggs and a 5th girl died trying.

As for calcium supplements, I use crushed egg shells and my girls gobble it up. I have also used crushed oyster shell but my girls clearly prefer egg shells.

RURU what percent of the mix do you add to their food?

Should I continue to keep oyster shell/egg shell available to them year round to build their calcium up while they are not laying?

Yes, peasue make sure they have that as well. I take the feed bucket and put in feed for my 16 sebbies and ad about a cup and a half once a day and that is bedtime. I only do this through the breeding season off and on and in the winter. Just enough to make sure my girls keep that calcium in them bones. Peasue they seem to love the nuts. They go running in the pen when they know momma has nuts in their dinner!
I only put the nuts in in the winter on super cold nights. Kind of use your judgement on the nut mix and how often to use. My girls love the nuts mix while sitting on the nest. I kind of put some on the end of the nest so we have it right there some of my girls will not get off the nest. I have to pick them up and kick them off for a potty break, bath, food and water.

I think I'll start offering crushed eggshells as well, along with layer pellets and oyster shells (year round or at leadt through winter 2013-2014). I'm REALLY hoping if she lays a few more eggs then she will go broody this week. I uncovered the egg from yesterday and will ho check fir a second one soon. Don't know if its a little too late in the season for her to brood or not but she's obviously proving that she doesn't follow the general rules anyway lol

It is from Walmart it is back in the bird feed isle. Called Porch, patio and deck. It has peanuts, sunflower, safflower, pumpkin, pastcio nuts. I think that is all of them. Then there is another one nut and berry mix but the sunflower seeds have the shells I also feed that one.

I need to sit down tonight and read the fermented feed info. For years, I have mixed my own feed per the needs of the particular need at the time of my waterfowl. I had thought about going the Mazuri route, but I think I am more interested in the fermented feed. Talk about overachievers....mine are still at it. But, like I said...100 degrees taday, I take the eggs and do the incubating so they won't sit. Especially because no they are also going to be molting. I give them Rooster Booster products also during breeding, sitting and molting time. That is great stuff. The whole line of their products.
