Are your geese done laying for the year?

Well I thought when Missy took her first 2 week break we were through and don't even remember how many at that time up into 40's then after 2 weeks she started laying again and laid #50 then quit so I thought for sure she was done, took about a week off this time but now she is back again and has laid # 55 due to lay again sometime after Midnight Friday. I just expect her to keep going now.

They are still mating too.

Usually around a year. Mine were hatched April 28, 2012 and she laid her first egg March 9, 2013. It's more like the first full spring after hatched assuming they were hatched early spring. I don't know if they start laying under 9 months old but I suspect not. Pilgrims are pretty good layers. Metzer farms says their average is 20-25 eggs a season but my girls is almost up to FIFTY!!!

A year?! What age do the males mature? And congrats on all your eggs!

I know RG Missy is not a good influence. she is up to # 54 now. and if she keeps it up will be laying # 55 tomorrow morning sometime. and she is determined to have the ducklings that hatched last week. The only thing keeping her from it is fencing.

Hi, can I ask what you feed I don't get that kind of production. Thanks!

I think mine are all done.. My weather was messed up and I only got 11 eggs from my sebbie girl, 3 babies from those and a incubator malfuction took out the rest.
The Embdens' just quit this last week, however the older female laid last fall, so I just watch them, lol.

The Dewlaps laid over 30 each this year...
I'll have good conditioned boys to ensure babies next spring.

My girl is right behind her Miss Lydia! Today was her 49th. From a breed (pilgrim) that is supposed to normally lay 20-25 per season I think it's very impressive. I feed mine chicken layer pellets and lots of grass. Also oyster shell. They have 24/7 access to both.
