Aren't chickens funny little things with odd quirks?

Here ya go!

-You can see the slit where the worms go - use a funnel for filling it.

-Decide how many holes you need - obs the more holes the quicker the worms will come out - I have 4 holes and it lasts a while.

-The nylon tie gives a clue on how to close the slit while providing the means for hanging the ball - don't use a self-closing tie but some string
(I didn't have any to hand at the time of photo)

Good luck!

Oh, I forgot - you know the two holes you need for the string?
Don't make them too near the slit as there is a tendancy for the string holes to split all the way to the slit rendering your new chicken toy useless.
See the distance I have mine

Rain water tends to collect in pools on top of our rain barrels (due to the lip on the top of the barrel), and along the vent of our aeration tank on the other side of the yard. When we let the girls out to roam the yard they IMMEDIATELY go to one of those two places looking for water. If we shoosh them away or they do not find water at either location, they bolt to the other spot to check it out. If they find water, they stand there and drink for up to ten minutes (no joke). It's 100% predictable and you'd think we never give them ANYWAY water (even though they always have free access to plenty of it). They do this whether we let them out every day or only get to get them out a few times a week. It's actually pretty funny watching them run each other down racing for these locations. XD
