Aren't chickens supposed to LIKE worms?

my two chiks are wierd, they fight over big black slugs the size of their head but they are scared of worms, and the grown chicken just picks up worms then drops them, like he doesn't care about them

Nope- my 6 week olds don't like the big earthworms either. Too big for them I guess. The do go after other bugs and flies though..

My chicks love worms,
they'll play "football" as my little brother calls it, lol, running and ducking (they have tackled eachother too

) and whoever gets the worm in the end is the lucky one.

I just got some mealworms yesterday trying to find something my 7 week old chicks and guineas would like. I've been trying to find something to help train them, and the mealworms work like a charm. All of my pullets would eat from my hand first time, and on the second go round this morning I actually had some of the guineas eating out of hand.

After only 2 days, they all come running when I walk into the run.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with "mutant" chickens! LOL! My OEGB screamed and pooped the first time she saw a worm and now runs from them! My Cornish tries them, then slings it and wipes the slime on ME!

The Cornish also hates the mealworms, but the OEGB goes NUTS when she sees them! The Cornish will grab one and run to make the OEGB chase her, then she drops it and the OEGB gobbles it up. It is hilarious to watch.

The boys are really disappointed, though. They gather up tons of worms and I keep trying to put them back in the garden. LOL!

So Slugs are o.k. ??????

we have lots of those in washington . My son loves running around the yard looking for worms to give the chickens .

My girls turn their beaks up at the slugs, which is a bummer, since we have a ton.

They will however take your hand off for a fat juicy grub. You know the big white ones?? They go nuts over them. They will eat worms as well, but boy do they love those grubs!!
