Arizona Chickens

I know they go fast. My mom used to get her eggs at the farmer's market when she got there early enough. Of course, that was before I convinced her to get her own chickens.
The chicken math doesn't just effect us here on this thread...it spreads to the people around us.

I must get mealworm colony going but I think mine will be on the back porch ... and a composter too (not on the porch)! It's not just chicken math that's a problem - it's all of the great ideas!

Oh, yes, watch out...I always wanted goats, but was able to contain the desire because I thought it was unrealistic..but in this group several people (at least) have goats...I want some! Now the composting and red worms, those I did before the AZ thread, but the mealworms!!?? My mother is visiting next week from Maine...how am I supposed to explain a box of writhing mealworms!!!

Editing to add: my mealworms are only in the bathroom for the night. Tomorrow they go on the porch!

Awe!!! I would absolutely LOVE a mini goat

Maybe someday!

How long do I have to wait to post pics of my chicks to ask the infamous pullet/cockerel question?

Usually at least 6 weeks but it depends on the breed. You can sometimes tell leghorns by 4 weeks but sometimes you can't tell EEs until they lay an egg or crow.

What I meant was: How long do I have to be on this forum before I can post pictures? I have some chicks that I want to ask about, but apparently I haven't been on long enough to post yet.

Thanks

Thanks

I don't think it has to do with how long...but how many posts. You probably can post pics now?? if not, go to the new members thread and welcome some people to get your posts up.

I know this isn't the "Breed Question" area, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

OK, I have 8 chicks and I am hoping

for a rooster somewhere in the mix. There are 2 that are in question:

#1 is a Mystery chick...the owner said the possibilities are an Ameraucana hen X Barred Rock, Black SxLink or a Speckled Sussex roo (she seemed pretty certain of the hen). "She" has a single comb, has yellow legs, and chipmunk stripes. She has no muffs/beard & no greenish legs. Her comb seems to be turning more pink than the other chicks (yes, I realize they are different breeds). Opinions on breed would be helpful as well.

#2 is a Barred Rock…and she looks like one. My eyes are seeing a bit of red in her comb. Hubby picked this one & is hoping for some crowing

Even though I have been around chickens my entire life, I am a new chicken keeper...so my eyes are not the best judges. I'm counting on you "Chicken Crazies" to help me out!

Michele - yes, a pretty carton mext time. I promise.

Selling eggs - now that I have 8 reliable layers, I get enough eggs to sell to cover feed and then some. I will be able to pay the personal funds back that I used to buy the pink cartons soon. I charge most people $3/dz but the neighbors & one little old man at work who always calls me "Bridget" pay $2.
