mclevinson is correct on both counts. There are some feed stores that will even place an order for specific breeds for you. Nurseshelly has mentioned that the Ace Hardware in Queen Creek does this. There are a lot of people hatching on this thread and some that may have older pullets available, too.
ETA : Forgot to mention that there are many breeders on this thread with beautiful birds, too. If they have what you are looking for, that would be a great way to start.

What part of AZ are you in, and what are you wanting from your chickens? Great egg layers? Beautiful yard ornaments? Lap-chickens? Dinner? All of the above (it is possible)?

Does anyone know of any feed stores on the west side that sell incubators?? Phx, Goodyear, Surprise, Glendale, Avondale etc. My egg supplier for the Easter Hatch have been waaayy to generous.

mclevinson DON'T buy the giant ones! They have been treated with an insect hormone to keep them from developing into adults (which are beetles) and to just grow to be big grubs. They will not produce offspring. Gallo and I ordered the large size so that they would begin to make new mealworms more quickly. I don't think it matters though, as long as you don't get the "super-sized" mealworms. They are easy to care for and the ladies LOVE them.

Oh, MEALworms! I raise redworms too - chicks dig 'em!

Yep, just the plain ol' mealworms are best, and I think the key to a successful colony is don't try too hard!

They look smaller in the picture then they really are. There is more of them on the top of the wheat then hiding inside it.

They are actually moving the carrotts

I'd add... no roosters if you're going to be keeping chickens in stealth mode, and avoid breeds with the word "flighty" in their description

My first poultry project was Bantam Brahmas, which lived up to their mellow reputation, and I would probably still have them if they laid large eggs!
