Arizona Chickens

Can I please ask any Tucson people where the best prices on feed & stuff is? We are in Picture Rocks and moved from the central. I have been to the one I think on Houghton, OK feed off Dodge, been to Carter's..but seriously, I cannot believe how expensive feed stores are. I want to do business with local people but I am sorry, when they charge $200 for wire I can get at Lowe's for $120..something is wrong..and the feed prices are sometimes double to what I see people say they pay for feed around the country..any suggestions?? It just seems every feed store here is a hodge podge of a lil of this or that..really overprices and I really just want to find one good place to shop..is that possible?? Preferable above Speedway, northwest as much as possible..thank you

UGH! I have been looking at pic after pic online and I am fairly certain that my two beautiful buttercups that are now 8 weeks are BOYS!!!!!!!!!

I ordered four pullets, two died from shipping within 24 hours and left me with just two. They look nothing like any picture that I have seen. They sprouted combs early by 3-4 weeks and turned red. I am super PO'd. They are the sweetest ones in the bunch and now I have to get rid of them. I saw a pic of an 18 week pullet that didn't have a comb as big or red as the two that I have.

So much for 90% accuracy. Seems silly to place another order. What would I do with 25 more chicks?

Hi GiddyMoon - I am not sure you will find one place! You may just have to call the different stores and check prices for what you want. I went by Vaquero yesterday (Grant and the Freeway frontage) for the first time and found much cheaper feeders and waterers, and they also sell syringes for vaccinations. I don't know about their feed prices, it looked like they carry the Nutrena line. The people there were GREAT when I had a chick emergency 3 years ago and they tried to help me figure it out. They even called me back when they found more information. It took me 3 years to get there though since they are so far from me. I get organic layer feed at OK, so I am already paying more than most are willing to. My new chicks are getting Purina Start and Grow that I bought at Tucson feeds, and they were NOT helpful or friendly. 5pinkarrows had great things to say about the AZ Feeds on 6th Ave, but that is far from you. You might give Vaquero a try

Who wants to see some random roo pictures?

YOU DO!

These are the three remaining roos from the NYD hatch.

A Mahonri eggie:

In comparison to a gamey Patchling from my flock:

All three roos: The one in the front has just discovered the meaties can't run away, and are thus easy targets for mating. He's scoping a target riiight now.

And and unrelated picture of my head roo, Patchwork. He was all up in my grill while I was taking pictures. Doesn't he look especially roo-ly?

Overcast days are the best for taking chicken pictures. you can even get the reflection of hte keritins (spelling?) in their feathers, if you are lucky.

Oh NO! I'm sorry. That really stinks. I just know that my favorites will be roos, too. What about My Pet Chicken, don't they take small orders? Um, you could always raise a flock of youngsters and sell them? What a pain though!

I'm not sure I want to do it again anytime soon! They are a lot of work, plus these are the first babies I have had, and they came to me greatly stressed. Now I am a nervous nellie about them, but they are doing really well. Tonight or tomorrow morning I have to vaccinate them. That will be an adventure.

Only Patch. The two others are not usuable for breeding, as they are barred.

Patch has probably finished his contribution to the gene pool as well. He seems to throw a TON of barred chicks (see the crele patterning on him), but we love Patch and he's a pet. He'll be our head roo until he croaks.

I tried earlier to repost the pics I had, but this stupid computer wouldn't let me. I am sooooooooo computer stupid it's not even funny. Now being a 1950s housewife, I can do that, minus the pearls and heals and add a few swear words
