Mostly right.
The calcuim that creates the egg shells comes in two colors: white or blue. It's not the genes themselves, but how the chicken is creating the calcium (carbonate?) that determines the structure of the molecule and thus the color.
All birds are genetically pre-disposed to lay one or the other.
All other colors come from the "spray painting" process that happens in the chute.
