Arizona Chickens

Question for all you experienced hatch-a-holics out there: After day 23, is there no hope for late hatchers? I just did an eggtopsy. Looked like the chick was fully formed but just didn't hatch. Waited until day 23 in the PM, no peeping or anything when tapped, no movement when candled...did I give up too soon? I feel bad.

It depends, I have have day 25 hatchers, but in our climate, it seems after day 23 they dry up. I always tap and pip the dud eggs if I am going to trash them early.

Glad they r all ok

If they sprawl out as far from the lamp as the can get, too hot. If they are huddled together in one big fuzzy lump right under it, they're too cold. Keep the food and water as far away from the lamp as you can.

Maaaannnn. I shoulda waited another day. Maybe. This learning curve stinks.

Meg,
if you are embarking on the animal train there are going to be a few sad days! But you don't want to miss they countless happy days. Don't beat yourself up too much over this

. Likely they were out anyway because your humidity dropped at a very inopportune time. Just immagine how many more mistakes you would make if it was not for the forum here

. My but got saved so many times...
In the meantime enjoy the chickies that made it!

Don't worry about it. It was PROBABLY dead, and even if it hatched late, there was PROBABLY something wrong with it.
