I have gone chick crazy. I was at the feed store by work today and bought 4 more chicks then stoped at store on way home that had easter eggers adn bought 2 more. I have 14 chicks. I already need to expand my coop before the get bigger lol.

Hiya everyone,

So yea i dont even know how many pages I am behind.

The chicks I got a while ago are doing great and so is everyone else. Its starting to get hot and now that the chickens are confined to a run instead of free ranging in the yard I am curious if there are any plants I could put in there that the chickens wouldent strip. I want to give them some shade but fear that they would eat what ever I place in there. Any suggestions?

Was thinking possibly Cassius or Creosote was thinking they might not eat either of those but to be honest i have NO CLUE. They both may be poisonous but I assume the chickens wont eat a poisonous plant unless they were starving and I doubt my chickens are starving.

SO... Thoughts??

Thanks
Shaun

There are a LOT of respiratory infections that affect chickens, and some are more severe than others. The symptoms for all are pretty similar, with the exception that coryza has a nasty smell. A course of Baytril (you need a vet's prescription) or Denagard (only available via mail order) are the two best antibiotics for chicken respiratory illnesses. Denagard is not approved for use on chickens in the US, but is used in most of the rest of the world.

I know, but the OP (and maybe Mahonri) only asked about IB.

In short: they all suck, and Duramycin doesn't really help.

I had to reread this. The first time I read: I am happy my mom's sister is also going to by my sister-in-law. Yikes! Everyone joked about that when we lived in TN, but I thought maybe we'd really found it in AZ.

Okay, WHOOPS!!! This is actually 5pinkarrows, not curlieque12. The curly girl is my daughter. I forgot I was on a different computer. Sorry! But while I'm here, Smiles N Sunshine, I am soooo sorry about your pullet. How frustrating! Do you have others out in the same place?

Nurseshelly,

for baby chicks! How did your little pippers do? I can't wait to try that! Oh, and thanks for the advice about Phoenix aquariums.

stevensonm, I completely understand. I have some chicks waiting on their coop, too. My husband says he doesn't have room to build more coops. I told him that he certainly does! Just as soon as he cuts down a tree.
