Arizona Chickens

The reason why my DH is getting into this chicken thing so much is because of all these "little" projects. He now wants to build a chicken plucker if I can get him a 3/4 HP motor. That plucker plucks chickens in 15 seconds flat (check out various U-tube videos). That's what you need! Easy as pie

. Maybe there will even be a DH project building support group...

What kind of 3/4 hp motor do you need? 115 or 230 v.? What rpm? 1/2 or 5/8 shaft? Like an evap cooler motor or more like an a/c motor. New or used? I know a guy......

Bob, here is his answer:
¾ hp 120 volt 1750 rpm shaft size ½ or 5/8 or ¾
New or used ok
Needs to have a frame mount like an evap cooler

what is kefir yogurt
Quote:
I give my chicks kefir yogurt maybe once a week. They love it and I assume it's good for them.

I used to make my own regular yogurt but got too lazy. (milk) Kefir grains are a combination of bacteria and yeasts that look like a little piece of cauliflower. Throw it in the milk, leave on the counter and depending on volume, temp, etc. you'll have delicious Kefir Yogurt in a day or so. The yogurt (without the grains) is also available at TJs for example. Eat the yogurt and give the grains some new milk... and so forth. They do all the work for you. That's why I share with dogs, cats, and chickens. It produces more/faster than I can eat.
I also have water kefir grains that basically make plain soda. Unfortunately we don't get along and these buggers are not producing well for me. Anybody an idea how to fix that? Please let me know!

When I was growing up, smallpox, diptheria and polio were the only vaccines routinely available. Later, in the service I got to experience all the really nifty neat vaccines that most folks only get to drool over...unless they are planning a trip to a 3rd world country

You know...cholera, plague, etc. Most of those are (or at least were then) only useful for about 6 months; then you got to start over

This is the A-frame mini-tractor. It's 3x4, and 42" high. Figured it would relieve some brooder crowding. It still looks ghetto because it hasn't been painted or trimmed at all.

Cost about $40 thanks to cull lumber. When the coop is finished, we can use it for isolation, as a foraging tractor, or we can even convert it to a small greenhouse. Meanwhile, the two that we dropped in there (they're our largest) seem to be much happier. The rest in the brooders are happier as well since they have a bit of room now. It's neat to go out and see them roosting at night. The pooches seem to be intrigued when we take them out in the yard. One of them (sweetest girl you'll ever meet) will go check on them before she goes back inside.
