Arizona Chickens

TT! :

Does anyone want to join me for some Post-Rapture looting?

I'm in! Do we get more chickens?

Ok, I have tried to keep up, but I can't, sorry all, please know you have my sympathy/empathy for losses and super cheers for the successes (chicks, broodies?, extra chickens?). I am checking in for the first time in a while, took a new job, in a new field, 29 chicks, etc...busy. Definitely do NOT need more chickens.

from 16 white ameraucana eggs only 2 chicks hatched

Who is the vet? She may need to be on antibiotics for a lot longer than is being prescribed if the infection keeps coming back.

It was Dr Funk. She was on two weeks of antibiotics. Within two days she looked totally better. Then about a week after she finished her antibiotics her eye started looking funny again so now we are on injectable antibiotics.

Don't know that vet. Dr Burke at Cornerstone Animal Hospital is GREAT.

I couldn't get in with Dr. Burke and Dr. Driggers was not in, so Dr. Funk was who was recommended to me. I do love Dr. Burke, but I detest the other two vets at Cornerstone who they often punt you to without telling you until you get to your apt, even though you make your apt with Dr. Burke. I've been going to Dr. Burke for probably 18 years or so, back when he was at the office at Superstition Springs. IF the other two guys (mismanaged my pets care, and led to death of one pet, and gross negligence to anther) were not in his practice, I would go there every time. Dr. Driggers is every bit as good as Dr. Burke for birds. Dr. Driggers used to work with Dr. Funk at Mesa Animal Hosp. so that's why we went there, he has been seeing exotics for decades.

sorry to cut in in the middle of a conversation, someone suggested i come say hi over here!

I am in tucson with my ladies, this is my first time raising chickens. are there any "arizona specific" chicken issues i should watch for? other than heat obviously!

Im excited to have my chicks and learn all about them!

mrsruvi!!! The heat is the only issue I know of.

Totally off topic, but I am so excited today! I am missing my church (which I almost never do) to go to Tucson to Calvary Chapel. Ken Ham is speaking this morning and tonight!!! I know he did yesterday, too, but I can't justify driving to Tucson twice in one weekend. I am a huge fan of his and his organization, Answers in Genesis. He is also the keynote speaker at our homeschool convention this year in Phoenix. I am always amazed that they convince such great speakers to come to Phoenix in July. That means we get to see him speak twice in a year! Anyway, we get to spend the day in Tucson killing time until the 2 evening sessions at 6. We are for sure going out to lunch, but I'm not sure after that. Maybe the feed store? I may need more bunny food since the goofy chickens keep eating it all.
