i just tried to put the injured EE outside to see how bad it is, it's been since 8:30ish this morning, plus she spilled her water all over and got the shavings soaked in the carrier. it looks like she may have a broken leg, but i really can't tell which one, she was hobbling so bad. dumped out the wet shavings and she's pooping at least, put in new stuff and put her back in the laundry room. i don't know what else to do for her. i am not one for too many heroics on chickens(like vet calls, xrays), but i don't like to see any animal in pain either. but she was attacked by a DOG, so that's gotta hurt. and he's an abnormally large beagle, 48 pounds, not fat, just tall, more like a foxhound, and stubborn as all getout.

again, time will tell. her eyes are bright, head up, comb pink.

we lost an ameraucana last night. they are at laree's for the moment. i'll have to get over there and snap some pics for you. oh, one hatched CLEAN FACED!

I've had a couple that hatched clean faced that later grew muffs and beards.
But I've also had a couple hatch that way. I'm still trying to figure out which hen is the culprit.

My daughter and I met with constance in AJ today to pick up this handsome young roo for our flock of 17 young hens

It was a pleasure to meet such a nice person and put a face to a name here at the forum.

THANK YOU constance!

While waiting this morning Mikayla and I stopped at a local feed store and bought 2 bags of Purina layer pellets taking advantage of some coupons we had and after picking up the roo we drove the 90 miles home only to find both bags full of mold

So called the feed store and they said they would replace it and make it worth my while to drive back. Yeah right... Anyway by the look of the mold so evenly spread through the feed it may have been bagged too moist or at least that is what Tom the store owner said. Sooooo I get two free bags of a different brand and he added another free. Still a long drive

Anyway got a new roo and all is now well and looks like a storm coming in up here in Morristown, but it will likely miss as most seem to up this way.

Lost another Ameraucana pullet from my NYD hatch today to the heat.

I've got to get another AC unit, this one just doesn't blow that cold anymore.

Sorry to hear that... Hope things go better from here on in, the humidity from the recent rains has really helped most of our younger girls and today they were acting somewhat normal and happy again, but the old girls are still looking distressed and bummed though.

Still laying faithfully though
