O.K. I've just finished going through all my seeds. I've decided that I'm purging most of everything that I have, which totals to more than 250 packages of seeds, weighing more than 8 lbs; it will be a great start to the seed exchange. Most of the seeds come from Native Seed Search, Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, Seeds of Change and Johnny's Seeds. There are also a number of packages from things that I've saved. I even went out and collected a LOT of native wildflower seeds today (e.g. Globemallow, Desert Marigolds, Brittlebush, Mexican Hats). I hope everyone has fun with it; who wouldn't delight in eight varieties of Okra?

I'll deliver the box to Constance tomorrow and she'll decide where to send it next; it'll then be out of my hands and become the property of the BYC community. So far we have TT!, pdx2phx, pimachickens, Tracydr, pastrymama, stevensonm, ca, Brenda Schonig, Bob's Henhouse and maybe aurorarose25 and ArizonaDesertChicks? If you'd like to get in and didn't see your name, speak up. If you're on the list and have something to contribute, get your seeds ready. I really can't wait to see what this collection looks like after it travels the length of the state and back and changes with each member it passes.

I have 4 broodies. Stupid chickens,

I also have chicks due on Friday. There aren't a lot of them, but if you can sucker each momma to take one...

You do mean literally shrink-wrapped in plastic wrap? To increase the humidity of his little shell?
I've never incubated eggs in AZ before. Last time I incubated any eggs Was in OK. It was dry but not AZ dry.

No, she means the inner membrane has dried and shrunk around the chick, restricting movement. If the chick cannot move, it can't pip or unzip the shell.

No, I mean his egg was cracked half way around but the membrane was dried to his feathers and he couldn't progress. This with the incubator at 70% plus humidity. I am soooo taking a nice long hatching vacation.

And WELCOME Tracy!

Dear Umpteen Roosters,

Dudes: the sun is up. Give it a rest. Crowing is not going to restore your dignity. Next time, sleep in the coop and avoid the bad hair-dos.

Thank you,

The Gravy Train
