Arizona Chickens

Hi Constance,

Mikayla wanted me to post these for you... Not the best photos, but she wanted you to know he is doing well. Max (Blue Max) was named by the grandson and he and his 17 ladies were let out to FR for the first time (they are all around 11 or 12 weeks old) yesterday afternoon with supervision from Mikayla. He an his flock live in the left area, Hubert and his 15 girls live next door on the right. There is a hen house, enclosed run, and very large fenced in area for each flock.

This blue rooster with his raspy low key crow was an instant hit here...

**Update on Phoebe**

Phoebe made it through the night the vet said. The anti-inflammatory injection worked. She is out of the oxygen box and "acting like a chicken". She is eating and drinking and scratching around.

Am waiting to hear from them to see if I need a follow up visit with my vet. Can't wait to pick her up. Her sister Lucy was looking for her this morning. They were raised together from 2 days old.

Thanks for the kind words. You all are wonderful. Will keep you posted.

Thank you McLevinson. I had a similar idea with purchasing "day-olds" and keeping them inside for the first 8 weeks or so. That would put me into September (and give me 2 months to build a coop) before putting them outside.

Suggestions on Friendly egg layers would be welcome

Thanks again!

Mikey

Thanks you AZchicken. I am looking foward to the little peeps and am kinda hoping that with a bunch of human contact, they will be more "user friendly" for the grandkids. I too am looking for a mixed flock both for the visual variety and for the ease of nameing.

I can still chick sit. Will be out of town for the weekend but can help next week end. Will they be ok in my garage?

You do mean literally shrink-wrapped in plastic wrap? To increase the humidity of his little shell?
I've never incubated eggs in AZ before. Last time I incubated any eggs Was in OK. It was dry but not AZ dry.

No, I mean his egg was cracked half way around but the membrane was dried to his feathers and he couldn't progress. This with the incubator at 70% plus humidity. I am soooo taking a nice long hatching vacation.

And WELCOME Tracy!

Oh, I've had that happen. Didn't know what tho call it.

Well, if they set some seeds, I'd love to have some. It's kind of hard to find seeds for them. I grew up in Colorado where we had tons of milkweed and tons of Monarchs. I miss those wonderful butterflies.
I do enjoy the giant citrus swallowtail and a few othe swallowtail that I have in my yard but wish the monarchs would hang around longer.
