Arizona Chickens

In the city coyotes seem to be nocturnal. I have to wonder where they hide out during the day. I suspect golf courses and the foliage along the freeway.

It seems as if animal control or traffic has reduced the amount of feral dogs in our neighborhood. For a while, we were overrun with abandoned dogs

Luckily, it seems as if the roof rats have not made it to our neighborhood. That won't last. I remember in Viet Nam, the rats were so big, we didn't know whether to shoot them or hit them with a truck.

My dad said he would make traps with empty mortar casings and a little teeny bit of C-4. Of course, they got in trouble, and he was buring poo for weeks.

By the way, I may be a day late, but Welcome Home, Brother!

Well, the local people over there used to make rat traps out of chicken wire. They would catch rats and keep them in the trap and feed them scraps of food. When they got real fat, they would dunk the traps in water and drown the rats. Then they skinned them out. After I saw that, I stopped eating meat unless it was in the military chow.

I just bit the bullet and got a Rat Zapper. Reviews seem to favor it but who knows, I'll try it....the guy at the store tried to convince me to use the OneBite but no way am I going to risk secondary poisoning....I kinda like my dogs

oh, and Owls..

They did not like my chocolate peanut butter balls, how sad. And fyi, a gallon of red hot chili pepper flakes around the perimeter also does not work

Mahalo4 can Chloe and I come out and see the babies when they are born? I can't get any...but would love to see them. You will not be able to sex them will you? I need to tape my arms behind my back to I do not scoop any up and take them home! LOL......I so appreciate your offer to give our chicks back when we are ready but I am not sure when that will be and I can see it will be at least 6 months. I am still reading and envious of all of you!

I select babies by how they catch my eye. No rime or reason to my:jumpy selection. Just a feeling.

Hi everyone! Major lurker chiming in on the rat issue ... my 2 cents:

Well in other news we finally closed on our dream house in Mesa (only took 5 months, sheesh!), we have not officially moved in yet, though, so I am still waiting to get chickens. Might have to wait for spring

Is this a grown up rooster or a baby/teenager?

He will be 24 weeks this week... .and he is GORGEOUS!!!! (Once he gets his tail feathers in... he was picked on a bit, he will be TRUE SHOW QUALITY!) I can't wait to put him with the hens and hope that he'll be able to do his thing with them. At present I have 5 beautiful Wheaten/Blue Wheaten hens and 3/5 are laying... 3 of the 5 are show quality in my opinion show I should be able to hatch out some marvelous babies!
