Arizona Chickens

She couldn't remember, but that looks about right, I got two hens and 3 roosters. not a great ratio, but I am going to have my husband make a Orp run and I will put my buffs in there too. I also got a mille cochin. She is the sweetest thing. I really am in love with the color. What else did you get from her.

Stardust had medium to large barrels with sealing lids for around $3 apiece. On the northside of Broadway, about 1/4 mile east of Dobson - it is fairly well hidden & is on the east side of a very large parking lot. Great used building materials store.

Unfortunately, Stardust had zero, nada, zip idea what I was talking about. Walked the place, no barrels of any sort. Pooh.

Bogus!

We were there Saturday and they still had dozens of them. Musta had a run on barrels. They were in the far back in the materials (not the cabinets/doors) section. Had I know I'd'a picked you up a few.

These were the cardboard / sonno tube type. Did you want them for outdoor or indoor storage?

I also brought home an Ameracauna and a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. They all love to roost on me in the evening but Amelia loves to sit with me and watch everyone else before the others figure out where she went.I loved all of them. I was only going to bring 2 home but my DD fell in love with the Lavender Orp. We fell in love with a lot more as well. Wish we had a larger yard!

No you are not over reacting. IB can kill within 24 hours. Do you have any human antibiotics on hand? Could your Dr. (boss) prescribe you some Keflex caps and you could mix it up and syringe it down his throat?

Oh and yeah, you are really sounding a lot like Laree!.. I'm dyin' laughin' here.

I thought IB was a virus? I thought it was normally coronavirus. Are there any common bacterial respiratory illnesses that poultry get?
What vaccines are recommended for a breeding flock in AZ? What about for broilers? I was thinking about buying Newcastles and Marek's to give to my hens, since I didn't have it done at the hatchery but not sure if it can be done when they are older.
I've never vaccinated my poultry but thinking I probably should start. I think I've just always been very lucky.

Sadly, we're on a property in Mesa which enables us to have 10 chickens -- and I'm not clear yet if it's "10 hens + 1 rooster" or "10 chickens, including up to 1 rooster".... *le sigh*

It's probably good though, or else I'd dive into the deep end and get in way over my head from the very beginning.

As a ferret owner, I'm *very* familiar with the math that happens when you find a creature you love to keep and care for.

Anne.

I am in Mesa too. I think I can only have 10 chickens total (as I read it) including one rooster only if he doesn't violate the noise ordinance. I decided to have 7 hens leaving room to get more after a couple of years so I don't need to make anyone into chicken soup very soon when they stop being as productive laying eggs. I decided against a rooster because I don't need one for eggs and I don't want to annoy neighbors. I would rather fly more below the radar and keep my hens than press the issue with any uncooperative neighbors.

Hopefully, nobody decides to look over my fence. Of course, there are people in my neighborhood with turkeys, roosters (plural), and neighbors on all sides of me have chickens. I should be ok if I keep a low profile.

mama hen chris- they are all really tame. Aururarose did a really good job with them. We are really enjoying them. I can't wait until they start laying. I am going to incubate so I can have more lavs.
