No you are not over reacting. IB can kill within 24 hours. Do you have any human antibiotics on hand? Could your Dr. (boss) prescribe you some Keflex caps and you could mix it up and syringe it down his throat?
Oh and yeah, you are really sounding a lot like Laree!.. I'm dyin' laughin' here.
I thought IB was a virus? I thought it was normally coronavirus. Are there any common bacterial respiratory illnesses that poultry get?
What vaccines are recommended for a breeding flock in AZ? What about for broilers? I was thinking about buying Newcastles and Marek's to give to my hens, since I didn't have it done at the hatchery but not sure if it can be done when they are older.
I've never vaccinated my poultry but thinking I probably should start. I think I've just always been very lucky.
I am really not that familiar with infectious bronchitis, so I looked it up in Merck. It is indeed a virus, but is often accompanied by bacterial infections which are the leading cause of death. Therefore, treatment with antibiotics is appropriate. There are vaccines for IB, both live and attenuated. Using a live vaccine can cause the virus to be shed for months.
I've never vaccinated, but the common ones I know of people using include infectious coryza and fowl pox.
