Lol! Maybe I should start selling them around here! I bought my nipples from Kullas here on BYC. I haven't checked his signature in a while, so I'm not sure he has any left. I bought some more about a month ago from him and he still had a bunch. Shoot him a e-mail or PM and see if he has any. (you can find him in the quail section) I got about 16 of them for $20. Which is a great deal!!!!

I also get my buckets for free from Fry's. Their Bakery has them all the time. Make friends with one of the staff and have them save some for you. Well worth it!

And you can water about 5 birds per nipple, easily.

Do the chickens ever have a hard time adjusting to the nipples if they have been drinking out of a dish?

Thanks, I better get to it... looks like it would be a great project for this weekend... if my wife doesn't make other plans for me.

Becky, they actually catch on pretty quickly. I feel more comfortable transitioning in winter so that they don't go too long without water. I show them over and over and when one of them picks it up, they all figure it out pretty fast. I think it is great for our area, because we really don't have to worry too much about frost or freezing. Mine has been going strong for months now!

Oh and I was wrong about the number of burds per nipple. It is actually 8-10. So, I could have 50 on mine! LOL... Just kidding. I feel more comfortable with the 5 or 6 per nipple, just to be safe!

Hope this helps!

Good morning all!

Well I caught the new roo Patchwork tap-dancing for my BO Nugget. The Blommehonne breeding project takes a step forward!

The big news is this: I am making friends with an incredibly nice man in Sweden. He is an English ex-patriot, and owns 3% of the registered blommehonne population (which is only ~1000, so he has 30 or so birds). He is soooo nice and knowledgeable, and loves his chickens! I also did some research and found you CAN ship birds/eggs from certain parts of Europe--but HOLY TAILFEATHERS is it expensive. The USDA application fee for "request consideration" is $133 alone. Cheeseballs.

Anyone going to Sweden soon?

Hmmm, maybe you should go to Sweden. I 'll bet you would love to see his set up and he'd love to have you.

Of course, the birds would be quite pricey at that point, but what an experience! Cute picture of your little on on the new avitar.

Okay I have no intentions of eating my pet turkeys but I just have to share this morning's treat feeding with you guys. I always grab two heels of bread and go out to give to them each day. This morning as I was walking out the door I realized I still had some Crasins ya know those dried cranberries that are like raisins. Anyway I didn't know if they would eat them but I figured what the heck right. Oh my goodness they went crazy for them. So there I am standing in the pen feeding them whole wheat bread pieces and dried cranberries and a thought ran through my head. I AM STUFFING MY TURKEYS WHILE THEY ARE STILL ALIVE cranberries included.
